Women of Color for Climate Justice Road Road Tour–Guiding Principles
Women of Color United is guided and operated by these principles as we move forward with the Women of Color for Climate Justice Road Tour.
Our guiding principles are in alignment with:
- Environmental policies and practices that respect the connection between biological and cultural diversity
- The Belem Ecosocialist Declaration which encourages a shift away from quantitative toward qualitative economic criteria that rethinks the nature and goals of production and economic activity in general.
- The Bali Principles for Climate Justice
Our operating principles are as follows:
- All tour participants/interviewees/community groups should participate in messaging and shaping tour outcomes and how information is presented to target audiences (general public, donors, policy makers, etc) via the website, report, documentary film, YouTube, etc.
- A priority of this initiative is to ensure information about climate discourse, as well as rules and tools of engagement in policy development and implementation (US domestic and foreign policy, plus UN level talks) are in the hands and minds of women of color and their communities.
- A priority for this initiative to establish mechanisms for women of color and their communities to link with other women of color and their communities for solidarity and joint activism.
- A priority for this initiative to establish methods for women of color in the US to link with women in the global south to find common ground for solidarity and joint activism.
- As core principles of adaptation and mitigation, “community resistance and local self reliance are essential elements of a transition we need to make in the next 30 years.” By demonstrating how some communities are already on this path, this tour will begin to advance this transition.
