What does “Women of Color United Membership” mean?

First of all, membership is free!

Criteria for Core Membership:

  • You represent yourself as an individual woman of color OR as an organization representing the interests of communities of color.
  • Foremost “Membership” means you attest to the principles of Women of Color United. From there your level of engagement in the objectives and activities is according to your capacity/interest/willingness.

BENEFITS

  • Receipt of monthly newsletters focused on policy developments and activities of member individuals and organizations
  • Promotion of member organizations/individual activities within membership and beyond via the listserv and website
  • Networking opportunities with other women’s rights, racial justice, violence against women, and HIV&AIDS organizations focused on advancing the rights of women of color in the US and women in the global south.
  • Linkage with global south partners through online forums as well as through meetings and speaker’s tours
  • Engagement on the WOCU listserv which provides daily information on events, policy developments, funding opportunities, job announcements, etc.
  • Opportunity to post organizational/individual information (job announcements, events, news, etc) on listserv and website which will imminently reach hundreds and eventually thousands.
  • Opportunity to lift one’s voice with other like minded organizations to agitate for policy change within US and United Nations/Multilateral entities.

Criteria for Ally Membership – Who is an ally?

  • If you are signing up as an organization, your organization is not a women of color organization.
  • If you are signing up as an individual, you are not a woman of color.
  • You attest to the principles of Women of Color United, as an individual or as an organization

Join The Listserv (please indicate daily digest or individual emails)

Join the 41 million Strong Campaign (you will receive a toolkit for voter registration and getting out the vote)

Join the speakers bureau (you will receive a toolkit and request for individual/organizational profile

Commit to responding to action alerts as appropriate to your individual/organizational mission (we will send you a fact sheet letting you know of allowable actions for 501c3 organizations)

Commit to participating in WOCU events as you are able including media campaigns

Commit to hosting monthly/quarterly Women of Color Advocacy Roundtables in your city/region

Commit to hosting a film discussion on VAWG and HIV&AIDS

Please describe the work you would like us to profile (individual/organizational) on the website. If you are representing a membership-based organization, please include any relevant information about your organization’s membership structure, as well as types and number of members, if appropriate.
