About Women Of Color United


Who Are We
Founded on April 1st 2007, Women of Color United is a network of (Latin American, Native American/American Indian, Asian and Pacific Islander American, Middle Eastern American and African American) individuals and organizations that brings together constituencies of over 50,000 women nationwide. WOCU individuals and member organizations include survivors of violence, women living with HIV&AIDS, violence against women (VAW) survivor groups and service agencies, HIV & AIDS service and advocacy organizations, immigrant and Diaspora groups, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, sororities, and other women’s groups.

Our Mission

Women of Color United is a trust focused on building the capacity of groups to advocate around the intersection of Violence Against Women and HIV&AIDS globally. Women of Color United advances policies, systems, and practices, which address the co-factors, drivers, and contexts that result in Violence Against Women, and HIV&AIDS in Women of Color globally.

We educate others about the intersection with a focus on highlighting and bringing attention to issues specific to Women of Color globally.  As a trust, we influence the policy process for social change and social justice in the interest of Women of Color globally.

Our Core Principles

  1. Liberation of women of color Solidarity with women of color globally
  2. Embrace of the intersection of womanhood and racial/ethnic identities
  3. For us by us/nothing about us without us
  4. a.  Leadership of women of color on issues on issues that most affect us
  5. b.  Leadership of women living with HIV&AIDS and survivors of violence in advancing the violence            against women and HIV&AIDS agenda
  6. Recognition of, and resistance to, the many expressions of gender oppression, including racism,         classism, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism.
  7. Urgency of need to address Violence Against Women of color and HIV&AIDS, given the   disproportionate impact of these pandemics, and their intersectional relationship, on women of color globally
  8. Advancement of systemic change at all levels to address VAW and HIV&AIDS
  9. Affirmation of the need to address the multiple drivers and context of Violence Against Women and HIV&AIDS
  10. Promotion of holistic analyses, processes and programming
