10 Ways You Can Join the Global Movement to Address Violence Against Women and HIV&AIDS
1) Join Women of Color United! Via the listserv where you can learn about (and/or post) activities, action alerts, job opportunities, news/events, etc. related to violence against women and HIV&AIDS globally. Contact Jacqui Patterson: coordinator AT womenofcolorunited.org
2) Join UN-USA to learn more about engagement in UN processes on behalf of women in the United States and Globally, www.unusa.org
3) Conduct a Teach-In on violence against women and HIV&AIDS globally (for details/curriculum contact Jacqui Patterson coordinator AT womenofcolorunited.org )
4) Travel (if possible)-participate in exchange trips or add on a couple of days to vacation trips to visit with women’s groups.
5) Read-Websites of Women Won’t Wait (www.womenwontwait.org), V-Day, ATHENA Amnesty, Oxfam, Center for Women’s Global Development, Center for Health and Gender Equity, etc offer recommended reading. (Also please see “VAW and HIV&AIDS Reading List” on this site)
6) Visit Your Congressional Representative and educate her/him on the issue based on your experiences, reading, listserv interactions, travels, etc.
7) Download the 16 Days of Activism on Violence Against Women Toolkit and conduct some of the activities. www.cwgl.org
8) Bear witness–Collect stories from your work or experiences related to VAW and HIV&AIDS, and share on listservs, in articles, and on websites to promote global solidarity via sharing and education. 9) Request a copy of the upcoming publication, Together We Must! Promising Practices in Addressing the Intersection of Violence Against Women and HIV&AIDS to learn more about how the intersection is impacting women globally, including the United States and how women worldwide are addressing the intersection.
